About Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana –“Saubhagya”: Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana is a goal to provide lighting every household belong to the inaccessible areas of the country till 31 December 2018.


Why was PM Soubhagya Scheme launched? In July 2015, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Gram Jyoti Yojana was launched for the motive to provide electricity connections to every household. Those who are belong to below poverty line (BPL) households, they can avail with free connections those not covered under this category, and they can avail it with free connections paying Rs. 500/- in 10 installments of Rs 50/- each with their monthly bill. If the power supply is far away from the area then government will set up the solar power packs along with battery banks. PM Soubhagya Yojana Scheme is run by the nodal agency State-run Rural Electrification Corporation.


Purpose of Initiating Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana: Indian Government also facilitates the power supply of 200 to 300 Wp with battery bank with comprises of 5 LED lights, 1 DC fan and 1 DC power plug and a Repair and Maintenance (R&M) for 5 years to the remote and inaccessible areas of the country where un-electrified households are situated.

Benefits of Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Scheme: Check all the steps-
  • In Saubhagya Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana, remote area people will not subsidize for electricity consumption. Consumers will pay the bill according to their usage.
  • As per the statement of government of India that “Saubhagya Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Scheme is the substitute to kerosene” indicates that the substituting kerosene will also save import expenditure in rural areas.
