Nationality: Applicants must be-
  • A citizen of India
  • A citizen of Nepal or
  • A subject of Bhutan
  • A Tibetan refugee
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Myanmar, Sri Lanka, Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi, Zaire, Ethiopia or Vietnam with the motive to permanent settling in India are eligible to apply for UPSC IES Engineering Service Examination.

Academic Record: Aspirants should this record of education-
B.E./B.Tech or passed sections A and B of the Institution Examinations of the Institution of Engineers (India)
Or
Obtained a degree/diploma in engineering from such foreign university/college/institution recognized by the Government of India from time to time
Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institute of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineers (India);
Or
Passed Associate Membership Examination Parts II and III/Sections A and B of the Aeronautical Society of India;
Or
Passed Graduate Membership Examination of the Institution of Electronics and Radio Engineers, London held after November, 1959.



Age Limits: Candidate’s age must be between 21 years to 30 years. Age relaxation will be given to reserved category as per the govt. norms.

Application Fee: Candidates applying for Indian Engineering Services ESE Notification are required to pay Rs. 200/- as application Fee (for General/ OBC category). Whereas, applicants who are of reserved category are exempted to pay any fees. At the time of submitting UPSC ESE Application form applicants can pay the application fees UPSC ESE application form or thorough any branch of SBI by cash through challan.

Selection Process: Candidates will be appointed on their performance in Preliminary and main exam followed by interview.

Stage III: Personality Test: Final stage of recruitment process is Personality Test or interview. Personality Test or interview is of total 200 marks. Interview panel conducts this exam with the motive to check and observe the ability, knowledge and skills of the candidates.

  • Now go to the link as “ONLINE APPLICATION FOR VARIOUS EXAMINATIONS OF UPSC” from home page.
  • Already registered candidates may directly apply by entering on the right link
  • Further new candidates must enter on “new users” for IES one time registration process.
  • At new web page will open having online Application Form.
  • Part-I and Part-II as per the instructions available in the above mentioned site through drop down menu
  • Must upload scanned photograph and signature duly scanned in the .jpg format in such a manner that each file should not exceed 40 KB each and must not be less than 3 KB in size for the photograph
  • Check and submit it successfully.
  • Don’t forget to receive a print out of submitted form for further use.
