Exam Name: National Eligibility Test (NET)

ACADEMIC RecordAppliers must have Master’s Degree from a recognized university with at least 55% of marks. Those candidates who are in final year of the master’s course are also eligible to apply for UGC National Eligibility Test.


Age Limit: Contenders age should not be more than 28 years for JRF and No Age limit for Lectureship (LS) / Assistant Professor. 5 years relaxation is available in upper age limit OBC/ SC/ST/PWD categories and to women applicants. Candidates, having research experience, limited to the period spent on research in the relevant/related subject of post graduation degree, subject to a maximum of 5 years, will be also admissible for relaxation. There is no upper age limit for applying for eligibility for Assistant Professor.

UGC NET Fee:
  • For General/EWS Category Candidates: Rs. 1100/-
  • For OBC Candidates: Rs. 550/-
  • For SC/ ST Category Candidates: Rs. 275/-
  • For PWD Candidates - No Fee
  • Fee should be paid through Credit Card / Debit Card or through E-Challan generated during the online filling of the application form.

Selection Process: Selection of appliers will be made on basis of performance in Main written exam of NET. Pattern of test will be as follows-
Subjects: Paper I will contain questions based on General Aptitude Questions while Paper II and Paper III will contain questions based on selected subject.
Medium of Exam: Exam questions will be asked in Hindi or English Language.
Type of Questions: Questions in all paper will objective type.
Marking Scheme: Candidates will get 2 marks for each correct answer and here is no negative marking

Exam Pattern: See this-
  • Exam Mode: Examination will be conducted in offline mode. Candidates have to mark their responses on the Optical Mark Reader (OMR) Sheet.
  • Number of Questions: Total 150 questions will be asked in NET which is divided into 2 papers. Paper-I will have 50 questions and Paper-II will have 100 questions. All questions are compulsory to attempt.
  • Subjects: The Paper-I consists of General Aptitude Questions and the Paper-II contains questions related to the subject selected by candidates.
  • Type of Questions: All the papers will have objective type questions.
  • Medium of Paper: Candidate can choose the paper medium either Hindi or English. Choice for paper medium can be exercised at the time of filling the form.
  • Exam Duration: Paper-1 will be of 1 hour while Paper-II will be of 2 hours.
  • Negative Marking: CBSE is not following negative marking scheme in UGC NET.

Exam Name: National Eligibility Test (NET)

Educational Record: Appliers must have-
  • Master’s Degree OR equivalent examination from universities/ institutions recognized by UGC (list attached page No. 22 to 48) in Humanities (including languages) and Social Science, Computer Science &Applications, Electronic Science etc are eligible. Candidates should appear in the subject of their post graduation only.
  • Aspirants, who had appeared OR will be appearing at the qualifying Master’s degree examination and whose result is still awaited or candidates whose qualifying examinations have been delayed are also eligible to apply.
  • The Ph.D. degree holders whose Master’s level examination had been completed by 19th September can get relaxation of 5% in aggregate marks.
