By the effort of UP government a scheme is inaugurated to Make Sr. Citizens’ Life Better. The name of this yojana is Annapurna Scheme
which as introduced for Food Security to Sr. citizen individual will be given to needy persons. अन्नपूर्णा Bhojnalaya Yojna has been launched with effect from 1st April, 2000. Through Annapurna Scheme government meet the requirement of those senior citizens who, though eligible, have remained uncovered under the National Old Age Pension Scheme (NOAPS). As per the news; अन्नपूर्णा Bhojnalaya Yojna is targeted to cover, 20% (13.762 Lakh) of persons deserve to receive pension under NOAPS. Beneficiaries of Annapurna Scheme: See the Annapurna Scheme criteria:
  • Age of Senior Citizens’ either male or female should be 65 years or above more it.
  • To get beneficiaries Sr. Citizens’ must be a poor in the sense of having little or no regular means of substance from his/her own source of income or through financial support from family members or other sources.
  • In order to determine poverty of Sr. Citizens’ to provide them Beneficiaries of अन्नपूर्णा Bhojnalaya Yojna, the criteria, if any, in force in the States/UTs may also be followed.
  • Sr. Citizens’ should not be in receipt of pension under the NOAPS or State Pension Scheme.
  • The beneficiaries are given 10 Kg. of foodgrains per month free of cost.
  • Funds are currently released to the State Departments of Food & Civil Supplies (F& CS ;) in one installment.
  • This Department ties up with the Food Corporation of India (FCI), to release food grains district wise on payment of the cost of Food grains at CIP rates directly to the FCI offices. Initially the food grains were supplied at economic cost (Rs.9.80 per Kg.).
  • However, w.e.f. 1.11.2000, food grains are supplied at the CIP rates for BPL families (Rs.4.90 per Kg.)
  • The beneficiaries under the scheme are selected in the Gram Sabah’s and the Gram Panchayat distributes the entitlement cards to the beneficiaries.
