Beating Meira Kumar of the Opposition candidate to Kovind, the former Governor of Bihar, has served as a BJP MP in the Rajya Sabha as well. After securing over two-thirds of the total Electoral College votes Kovind is elected as new president of India. This is really very good news for the BJP party as its candidate has won the election as expected.

The day has also been decided then the new president with receive hypothetical oath to do his duty with full confidence till next five years. The counting of votes for the presidential election began at 11 am today. The contest, between the ruling NDA's Ram Nath Kovind and the Opposition's Meira Kumar, both are from Dalit Samaj, had seen nearly 99 per cent lawmakers and legislators cast their vote - the highest ever. The history has been created again when Dalit candidate become the President of great India once again after KR Narayanan.

• Ram Nath Kovind, former (35th) Bihar Governor, won the Presidential polls today with 65.6 % translating into 702,044 Electoral College votes.
• Ram Nath Kovind has beat Mrs Meira Kumar for the position of president and has received over 7 lakh votes while Kumar lags far behind with over 3.6 lakh votes.
• So it has been declared in the end that Kovind will be the second Dalit President of the country after KR Narayanan.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has also congratulated Ram Nath Kovind as a new president of India. Modi Ji said, “Congratulations to Shri Ram Nath Kovind Ji on being elected the President of India! Best wishes for a fruitful & inspiring tenure. Gladdened by the extensive support for Shri Ram Nath Kovind Ji among MPs & across various states. I thank members of the Electoral College. I also congratulate Meira Kumar Ji for her campaign, which was in spirit of the democratic ethos & values we all are proud of”.
• After hearing pleasing and blessing words for him, Ram Nath Kovind thanked and congratulated opposition candidate Meira Kumar.
• In speech 14^th President said that “it is a emotional moment for me today, Kovind said”. I had never thought that I would be elected as the President but the love for my nation has brought me here: Ram Nath Kovind.
• The battle against values and ideologies will continue. It has not concluded, said Meira Kumar.
